I played for over 40 years starting off with my local club, Hornets RFC in Somerset, with which I am still involved. I played for clubs in France, Holland, Malta, Portugal and Spain before coaching and playing the odd game at Bracknell RFC.

When I finished playing and coaching, I felt that I could still give something back to the game, and wanted to stay involved. I saw how hard it was to find referees for so many games.
When I played and coached I would often have a view on how the refereeing was, so it felt fair to put myself to the test. I realised very quickly that once you have a whistle in the middle, you have a very different perspective on the game. Now I really enjoy the challenges, the games and the various clubs. I feel its as close to still playing I could get, but (mostly) without getting hurt.
I enjoy every match I do, and it makes me happy that it's a small part played in enabling a bunch of players to get a game in.
Bristol Bears, Somerset Cricket, playing golf and exploring.
I have had some challenges with Prostate Cancer and a Chondrosarcoma over the last couple of years, and I have been very, very lucky to have discovered both, in time. I would urge everyone to ensure that they continue to take medical checks when they can and report anything unusual to your doctor.
