Former Chairman given Life Membership to Society

Recently, two members of the BSRFUR Exec, Nick (Chair) and Paul (CB Rep), were able to catch up with Grant Phillips, the previous Chair of BSRFUR, who was forced to step away from rugby in early 2019 for personal reasons. At the delayed 2019/20 AGM, the Society membership unanimously, and enthusiastically, approved a motion proposed by the Exec to award Grant an Honorary Life Membership, in recognition of the outstanding service he has given the Society over many years, both on the pitch as a referee and also as a coach & mentor, as well as in a number of committee roles, including Treasurer (when he played a major role in restoring the Society to a sound financial footing, after previous mismanagement), Berks RFU Representative (when he helped establish several key initiatives with Berkshire RFU and clubs, including Ref-Coach-Forum and Ref-Coach-Link) and most recently as Chair.Suffice to say that he was both surprised by, and hugely appreciative of, the gesture from the Society membership and we hope to see more of him once we are all able see a bit more of each other again, sometime in the future!
